As I have said many times the people here are great. The children are especially friendly. They will try to sell you anything; soda, knives, candies, even cigarettes. In Baghdad there is the "Sahat Al Hureya" or the Square Of Freedom. It is pictured on the back of the Central Bank of Iraq's Two Hundred Fifty Dinars. On the front of the same bill is pictured Saddam himself. I find this odd. His picture around the country is always a popular photo op for Americans in the area. Also in Baghdad is the Sahat Al Khulani or the Sqaure of Al Khulani where the mosque of Al Khulani is located. In Samara there is the Gama'a Al Malweya, a very old mosque. Samara use to be a Christian area but Kalif paid the Christians to leave, or so goes the story I was told. The area around Samara is known for growing grapes and watermelons. It is a custom that when a family member leaves the home for a far away or dangerous journey that you should throw a cup of water out on the ground behind them. It is believed that the clear water is from God and this will bring them back safe.
